Medical facilities at government hospitals are likely to be hit in Maharashtra as nurses have gone on a 48-hour strike over various demands including promotion and COVID-19 allowances.

Mumbai Police on Friday arrested Ramzan Sheikh, the contractor who constructed the building in Malvani which collapsed on Wednesday night, claimed 12 lives. The police has also booked building owner Rafeeq Siddiqui in the case.

Minutes after Maharashtra Minister Vijay Wadettiwar announced the re-opening of all activites in 18 of the 36 districts, the Chief Minister Uddhav Thakceray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government has issued a major clarification. “The lockdown has not been lifted. The proposal is still under consideration,” the government said in a notification.

Maharashtra is currently witnessing an extended lockdown till 15 June in order to arrest COVID-19 spread in the state, Mumbai’s civic body on Monday issued fresh set of guidelines on relaxations in opening of non-essential shops during this period.

Maharashtra recorded 58,924 new COVID-19 cases, on Monday (April 19).  A slight dip in its daily numbers.
