The Mumbai civic body has decided to convert the Jaslok Hospital here into a dedicated facility only for COVID-19 patients in the wake of a huge spike in cases of the viral infection in the city.

Maharashtra, on Sunday, recorded its highest one-day spike with 63,294 new Covid-19 cases. The state also recorded 349 fatalities the sameday.
As per reports by city’s civic body Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai reported 50 COVID-19 fatalities taking the death toll to 11,959. With the addition of today’s number, the city has reported 5,00,898 COVID-19 cases.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has called an all-party meeting on Saturday, which will be held via video-conferencing, to review the Covid-19 situation of the state where the proposal of a complete lockdown is also likely to be discussed.
As the COVID-19 cases in Mumbai continued to rise, the authorities announced fresh restrictions earlier this week.
