Maharashtra home minister  Anil Deshmukh on Monday tendered his resignation to chief minister uddhav thackeray

Deshmukh’s resignation comes after the Bombay high court ordered a CBI probe following a plea by former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh

State minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik said Deshmukh did not want to remain in the post and tendered his resignation to the chief minister.

“After the high court order, home minister Anil Deshmukh met Pawar Ji and party leaders and said he doesn’t want to remain in the post. He went to tender his resignation to the CM. Party has requested to the CM to accept his resignation,” Malik said to NDTV report

The Bombay high court on Monday directed the CBI to conduct a preliminary inquiry within 15 days into allegations of corruption and misconduct levelled by former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh against Anil Deshmukh.

A bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice G S Kulkarni said this was an “extraordinary” and “unprecedented” case that warranted an independent inquiry.
