Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope says there is no confrontation with Centre; but Question Why Maharashtra has been given so few vaccines?

Amidst the ongoing controversy over the vaccine shortage in Maharashtra, health minister Rajesh Tope said that there is no confrontation with the Centre and it should apply criteria of a number of patients per million while supplying vaccines to Maharashtra.

His comments came a day after the attack from the union health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan and I&B minister for poor vaccination management.

“I have received the latest release order of vaccine doses from the Centre and according to that, Maharashtra has been given 7.5 lakh vaccine dosages only. While Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana etc have been given far more vaccines than Maharashtra. As soon as I saw the order, I immediately spoke to Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and asked him why is the Centre discriminating against Maharashtra? A state which has a population of more than 12 crore, has 4.5 lakh active cases, 75,000 deaths, and a positivity rate of 20-25 per cent. We vaccinate close to 6 lakh people daily, which means we need 40 lakh doses of vaccine per week,” Health Minister Rajesh Tope said.

“Provide vaccines where it is needed. Please give us stock for one week at least : Rajesh tope” : rajesh tope

“In Satara, Sangli, Panvel, the vaccination drive has stopped. I have raised this issue also with the Health Minister.” : rajesh tope

“I do not want to get into a blame game with anyone on this. We have made a demand in writing and on the phone as well”. : rajesh topr

Our only appeal is that at the pace we are vaccinating people, we need 40 lakh doses per week. Instead of supplying vaccines to other countries, supply them to our own states. The centre is helping us but it is not helping us in the way it should said Rajesh Tope

‘Many nations like America have allowed immunization for people above 18 years. This young age group of 18- 35 is our active age group. It is important to vaccinate them’.

I talked to Dr Harshavardhan immediately even Sharad Pawar talked to him. I raised the issue of discrimination with us. We have the most number of active patients, positivity rate and death with a 12 crore population. Why we are given so few vaccines? Harshvardhan Ji assured me that corrections will be done soon. We are still waiting
