Maharashtra bandh live: bus stations closed, local train services unaffected till now

The Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) — a ruling alliance of the NCP, Congress and Shiv Sena — has called for a statewide bandh on Monday to protest against the Lakhimpur kheri Violence, in which at least eight were killed including four farmers. The bandh is being observed in solidarity with farmers of the country, who are protesting since last year against the Centre’s three farm legislation.

APMC markets closed in Navi Mumbai & Nashik


Hindmata market, one of the biggest cloth market fully closed. Similarly all shops at Lalbaug, Parel and Dadar closed. In Navi Mumbai and Nashik, APMC markets are completely shut. 

NCP, Congress and Sena leaders to protest across Mumbai

State NCP chief Jayant Patil, NCP leader Supriya Sule, minister Nawab Malik and others will gather at Hutatma Chowk in South Mumbai to stage a protest in solidarity with the farmers. 

Meanwhile, state Congress chief Nana Patole and Mumbai Congress chief Bhai Jagtap will hold a maun vrat morcha outside the Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. Yuva Sena workers and CPI(M), too, will hold separate rallies in Solapur.

Hotels closed till 4pm

Hoteliers association AHAR says that most restaurants will keep their premises closed till 4pm to support the bandh call by MVA government. 

Very few buses have been operated since morning, says BEST Spokesperson.

A senior BEST official said that only four buses were operated across Mumbai and barring this, bus operations are shut across island city and suburbs now

Local train services in Mumbai were unaffected till now, informs officials amid the complete shutdown call.

Establishments across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai shut

Most establishments in Navi Mumbai and Mumbai are shut in support of the MVA’s call for a state-wide bandh to protest against the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. Lesser than normal traffic was seen on Navi Mumbai streets.

“Federation of Retail Traders Welfare Association has decided to keep shop close till 4 pm in support of bandh called by Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi government in protest of the killing of farmers,” said FRTWA President Viren shah
