Maharashtra Announces Night Curfew, Weekend Lockdown Amid Covid Spike

The Maharashtra government on Sunday announced new restrictions including a night curfew in the state and a “strict lockdown” over the weekends from Friday 8 pm to Monday 7 pm amid an unprecedented surge in coronavirus cases.

Here are the new curbs announced by the state government

Night curfew from 8pm to 7am. Only essential services will be permitted during the night

Lockdown will be imposed every weekend from Friday 8pm to Monday 7 am Malls, restaurants and bars will be closed;

Restaurants are permitted only for take away and parcel

Everything except essential services will be closed on weekends.

Prohibitory orders issued under section 144 to be in force during the day time

Industries and production sector, vegetable markets will function with standard operating procedure (SOPs) and construction sites will operate if there is accommodation facility for workers

Film shoots will be allowed without crowds but theatres will be closed.

Government offices will be allowed to function only at 50 percent of their capacity

Auto, taxi, buses to run with 50% capacity.

Rickshaw-driver + 2 people

Religious places will have to follow strict COvid-19 rules

Work from home to be encouraged.

Parks and playgrounds to be closed

The decisions came after Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray led a cabinet meet to discuss the situation on Sunday, two days after he said he could not rule out a second lockdown to combat the spike in coronavirus cases in the state.
