Various parts of Maharashtra including capital Mumbai and Thane received moderate to intense spells of rains Wednesday morning.

Mumbai Police on Friday arrested Ramzan Sheikh, the contractor who constructed the building in Malvani which collapsed on Wednesday night, claimed 12 lives. The police has also booked building owner Rafeeq Siddiqui in the case.

A red alert has been issued in Mumbai for today in view of the incessant rains, said Shubhangi Bhute, Scientist, IMD Mumbai.

Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan-Dombivli and adjoining areas received heavy rains as the southwest monsoon officially arrived in the city, however, it has led to water-logging in several areas.

Minutes after Maharashtra Minister Vijay Wadettiwar announced the re-opening of all activites in 18 of the 36 districts, the Chief Minister Uddhav Thakceray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government has issued a major clarification. “The lockdown has not been lifted. The proposal is still under consideration,” the government said in a notification.

Maharashtra Minister Vijay Wadettiwar on Thursday announced the cancellation of Class 12 HSC board examinations in view of the ongoing second wave of COVID-19 and a possible third wave.

Centre today decided to cancel CBSE Class 12 exams in the view of COVID-19 pandemic. The high level meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the meeting it was also decided that CBSE will take steps to compile the results of class XII students as per a well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner.
